What Florida Residents and Businesses Come to Us For
Florida has no personal state income tax, so for most Florida residents the IRS is the agency on the other side of the table. That is the work we do, from the first IRS notice to the program that resolves it.
IRS Back Taxes for Florida Self-Employed Professionals
Florida's large 1099, real estate, and contractor workforce often arrives with multiple unfiled years. We pull transcripts, file the missing returns, and negotiate a resolution that fits the numbers.
Learn moreStop IRS Wage Garnishment
IRS wage garnishment can take a large share of every Florida paycheck until released, because the IRS exemption table leaves only a set amount. With Power of Attorney on file, we request the release as a resolution program goes into motion.
Learn moreOffer in Compromise (Florida Residents)
Settle federal tax debt for less than the full balance when the IRS formulas say you qualify. South Florida cost-of-living allowables can change OIC math in your favor.
Learn moreIRS Payroll Tax Debt for Florida Businesses
Restaurants, contractors, and service businesses across Florida fall behind on 941 payroll deposits more than any other IRS debt. We file Power of Attorney, get the missing quarters filed, and work the balance into a program the business can carry.
Learn moreIRS Audit Representation
We handle all three IRS audit formats: correspondence, office, and field. Whichever credential the case calls for, an Enrolled Agent, CPA, or tax attorney is on it.

For Florida residents and businesses dealing with an open IRS issue: notice response, transcripts, returns, Power of Attorney, resolution program, and follow-through.

Tax Resolution Services Across Florida
Florida doesn't tax personal income, so when people here owe IRS money, the IRS is usually the only tax collector they deal with. The programs below work the same in Pensacola as in Key West, but the IRS plugs county-level numbers into almost every one of them, and those numbers swing widely across the state.
IRS payment plans
Florida IRS Payment Plans and Installment Agreements
$885 a month
The gap between the Miami-Dade and Duval County housing allowances for a family of four (IRS, 2026).
Owe $50,000 or less, and most Florida taxpayers can get a streamlined installment agreement without a detailed financial review. Above that line, the IRS asks for Form 433-A and tests your expenses against its own county standards.
Those standards vary more than people expect. For a family of four in 2026, the housing and utilities allowance runs from $3,414 a month in Miami-Dade County down to $2,529 in Duval County. The same paycheck can produce two very different IRS payment demands.
An enrolled agent on our team builds the 433-A around your actual county and bills.
- Miami-Dade County: $3,414 a month
- Palm Beach County: $3,333 a month
- Orange County: $2,883 a month
- Hillsborough County: $2,861 a month
Fresh Start
The IRS Fresh Start Program for Florida Taxpayers
$10,000
The balance below which the IRS generally doesn't file a lien notice, since Fresh Start.
You'll hear "Fresh Start" in a lot of tax relief ads. It is not an application or a forgiveness program. It's a group of 2011 IRS policy changes: a $10,000 threshold before the IRS generally files a lien notice, streamlined plans up to $50,000, and a more workable Offer in Compromise.
In a state where so much household wealth sits in a home or a condo, the lien threshold is the piece that matters most. A recorded lien shows up when you try to sell or refinance anywhere in Florida. Anyone who says Fresh Start will cancel your balance is overselling it. The IRS decides.
Wage garnishment
Stopping an IRS Wage Garnishment Anywhere in Florida
30 days
The window to ask for a Collection Due Process hearing once an LT11 or Letter 1058 arrives.
Florida's hotels and restaurants employed 1,053,017 people in 2024, and hourly paychecks like those leave little room when the IRS takes a cut. Under a wage levy, your employer sends the IRS everything above the Publication 1494 exempt amount, every pay period, until a release arrives.
It never comes out of nowhere. A CP504 comes first, then an LT11 or Letter 1058, and that letter opens a 30-day window to request a Collection Due Process hearing.
The IRS generally can't levy while an installment agreement is in effect, so setting one up is often the quickest route to a release.
Offer in Compromise
How an Offer in Compromise Works for Florida Taxpayers
$423 a month
IRS 2026 operating allowance for one car in the Miami metro (Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties).
An Offer in Compromise is the one IRS program built to settle IRS debt for less than the full balance. You file Form 656 and Form 433-A (OIC) with a $205 fee and, for a lump-sum offer, 20% down. The IRS accepts only when it can't expect to collect more before the collection statute expiration date.
Where you live in Florida changes that math. The IRS allows $423 a month to run a car in the Miami metro, $320 around Tampa Bay, and $291 in the rest of the state. Higher allowances leave less income for the IRS to count.
Liens and levies
Federal Tax Lien and IRS Levy Help in Florida
21 days
How long a Florida bank holds levied funds before sending them to the IRS.
Florida's homestead protection shields a home from most creditors, but not from a federal tax lien. The Supreme Court has held that federal tax law overrides state homestead exemptions. What does protect a primary residence is federal: the IRS needs a federal judge's written approval to levy it.
A levy is different from a lien. It takes money, most often from a bank account, which the bank holds for 21 days before paying. That hold is the window for a bank levy release.
For the lien itself, we look at discharge for a sale, subordination for a refinance, or withdrawal.
Back taxes
Back Taxes and Unfiled Returns in Florida
647,881 jobs
In private construction across Florida (BLS, 2024), a trade where 1099 pay is common.
Florida had 647,881 private construction jobs across 84,936 firms in 2024, plus a huge restaurant and hotel workforce. Subcontractors on a 1099, tipped servers, real estate agents and owner-operators all earn money with little or nothing withheld, and that is where most Florida back taxes start.
Owners carry a second risk: unpaid payroll tax from missed 941 deposits. In every case, unfiled returns come first. If the IRS has filed substitute returns, we replace them with accurate ones before asking for any program.
Currently Not Collectible
Currently Not Collectible Status for Florida Households
$4,277 a month
Monroe County's 2026 IRS housing allowance for a family of four, the highest of Florida's 67 counties.
If your income can't cover basic living costs plus any IRS payment, the IRS can mark your account currently not collectible. Levies stop. Interest keeps accruing, a lien can still be filed, and the IRS reviews your income again later.
The county you live in shapes this decision. A family of four gets $4,277 a month for housing in Monroe County but $1,836 in Jackson County, so hardship can start at very different incomes in the Keys and the Panhandle.
If money is tight, IRS Publication 4134 lists free Low Income Taxpayer Clinics in Florida, including in Miami, Orlando and Tallahassee.
Penalty abatement
IRS Penalty Abatement in Florida After Hurricanes
All 67 counties
Got IRS deadline relief to May 1, 2025, after Debby, Helene and Milton.
Penalty abatement removes failure-to-file and failure-to-pay penalties through first-time relief or reasonable cause. In Florida, the most common reasonable cause is a hurricane.
Ian alone caused $109.5 billion in damage in Florida in 2022, the costliest hurricane in the state's history, and the IRS moved deadlines statewide. Idalia brought relief to 49 counties in 2023. After Debby, Helene and Milton in 2024, every Florida county had until May 1, 2025.
If the IRS charged a penalty for a due date inside a postponement window, the notice's phone number is where to ask for it to come off.
- Ian (2022): deadlines to Feb. 15, 2023
- Nicole (2022): deadlines to March 15, 2023
- Idalia (2023): deadlines to Feb. 15, 2024
- Debby, Helene and Milton (2024): deadlines to May 1, 2025
