Innovative Tax Relief is a licensed tax relief firm that has worked on roughly $100 million in tax debt on behalf of 15,000+ clients across all 50 states. Our team handles federal IRS tax relief from intake to resolution.

Search results for "tax relief" are full of look-alike companies promising to slash your debt. The honest version is this: the IRS publishes specific tax relief programs with specific eligibility rules. Some clients qualify to settle for less. Some qualify for a payment plan. Some qualify to pause collection entirely. We tell you which one applies before you sign anything.

How this case usually unfolds

Program matched

Owed more than they could pay · Tax relief

Most clients arrive unsure which IRS program even applies to them. The pattern is consistent: we pull account transcripts, confirm the real balance, run the eligibility formulas, and match the case to the relief program that costs the least, whether that is a settlement, a payment plan, or a pause on collection.

How tax relief services actually work

Tax relief cases follow the same three steps: confirm what you actually owe, identify which IRS programs you may qualify for, and execute the resolution. The difference between a good outcome and a bad one is which program gets picked and how the case is packaged.

On the first call, we pull your IRS account transcripts (so we are working from the real numbers, not the numbers on a scary notice), confirm assessment dates that govern collection statute and eligibility, and map out the relief options that actually fit. You leave that call with a written plan and an estimate.

01

When you need an IRS tax attorney

Some relief cases turn on representation rather than paperwork: an active wage garnishment, a Revenue Officer assigned to your file, or an audit heading for appeal. Our national representation page explains which credential a case like that calls for.

02

The IRS tax relief programs we handle

These are the programs the IRS actually offers. Most "tax relief" advertisements lump them all together. The truth is each program has strict eligibility rules and they work very differently.

Two related options come up often and sit outside this list. Bankruptcy and Innocent Spouse Relief are both worth understanding, and we will tell you honestly if either one fits your situation, but neither is a service we take on. Our resources section covers how each works.

01

Currently Not Collectible

If your monthly income barely covers basic living expenses, the IRS may classify your account as Currently Not Collectible. The debt does not go away, but collection activity stops while you stabilize.

02

Installment Agreement

A monthly payment plan that lets you pay your tax debt over time. The IRS has multiple installment options at different income levels. We negotiate the smallest monthly payment you may qualify for.

03

Offer in Compromise

Settle your tax debt for less than the full amount owed. The IRS accepts an Offer in Compromise when collecting the full balance would cause economic hardship. Rejection rates are high without expert preparation.

04

Penalty Abatement

The IRS can remove failure-to-file and failure-to-pay penalties when you have reasonable cause or a clean compliance history. We document the case and submit the request.

05

Tax Audit Appeals

If you disagree with an audit determination, you can appeal it. Our Enrolled Agents, accountants, and tax attorneys handle the appeal end-to-end.

Federal programs

Nine IRS programs. We look through them all.

Most tax debt is resolved through one of these nine programs. Which one fits depends on your numbers, your filing history, and assessment dates.

Even when I forget to send information that's needed, he kindly reminds me without making me feel pressured. I also appreciate how clearly he explains information and tax terms that I don't understand. His patience, professionalism, and communication have made the process much less stressful. I can't wait to see the final results from this company. So far, I've had a great experience and highly recommend working with Billy!

Frequently asked

What people ask about IRS tax relief.

Who qualifies for IRS tax relief?
Qualification depends on the program. Every program has different financial thresholds. We run the IRS formulas during the investigation phase so you know exactly which programs apply before we file anything.
How much can the IRS forgive?
In rare cases, an Offer in Compromise can reduce a balance to a small fraction of what was owed. More commonly, relief comes through penalty abatement (which removes multi-thousand-dollar penalty stacks) or Currently Not Collectible status (which pauses collection entirely).
Will tax relief hurt my credit?
Settling tax debt through the IRS does not directly affect your credit score (the IRS does not report to credit bureaus). However, a federal tax lien filed before resolution may appear on public records. We work to release liens once a resolution is approved.
Can I just call the IRS myself?
You can. But the IRS does not work in your favor on the phone — they collect. We know which forms to file, which formulas to run, and what the IRS will accept. The decision is yours, but most people who hire us tried calling first.
